What file formats does the Model Manager support and do I need to manually process them?

    • How to report critical issues: Report breaking changes to Procore Customer Support. For general feedback or non-critical issues, contact your Beta program lead or Procore point of contact.

Currently, only Admin permissions are available. 'Read-Only' and 'Standard' permission levels are coming soon.

Background

The Model Manager (Beta) centralizes your BIM data to create a single source of truth for high-performance viewing and cross-team coordination. When you upload 3D discipline files to your project's chosen document repository, Procore automatically processes them for immediate viewing with the legacy 3D Model Viewer for the Documents tool and the Document Viewer for the Document Management tool. Please note that the Next-Gen Viewer in Model Manager (Beta) has distinct BIM features that are not available in the Document Viewers.

Important

While these 3D files are processed automatically upon upload, an Admin must manually add them to the Model Manager (Beta) to create a federated scene for use in the Next-Gen Viewer. See Federate a New Project Model.

Automated File Processing

Files uploaded to your project's chosen document repository are immediately viewable in the Next-Gen Viewer in your repository (Documents or Document Management). To view them in theModel Manager (Beta), an Admin must first Federate a New Project Model. For all tools, files must be from a supported version of Autodesk® software or an open format (marked by an asterisk (*) below).

How Files are Processed for 2D Overlay

If you want to map 2D Drawing Sheets (PDFs) to a project model in the Model Manager, your file source in your project's chosen document repository dictates where you pull the PDFs from during the 2D overlay workflow.

Important

Unlike 3D models, 2D PDF files are not automatically processed for the Model Manager (Beta), regardless of where they are uploaded. If you want to use a PDF as a 2D overlay or 3D minimap in the Next-Gen Viewer, an Admin must complete the steps in Add 2D Overlay to the 3D Model.

  • If using Document Management, you will select PDFs directly from the Document Management tool.

  • If using Documents, you will select PDFs from the Drawings tool.

Storage & Federation

When files are federated in the Model Manager (Beta), the system generates a single federated scene stored in a proprietary format that can only be viewed in the Model Manager (Beta). Instead of using the legacy 3D Model Viewer format, the Next-Gen Viewer outputs streaming artifacts to optimize the model for massive file streaming and high performance across devices.
