Add Activities to a Schedule

Background

Procore’s scheduling engine is optimized for high-speed data entry. You can build out an activity list without ever taking your hands off the keyboard using the Enter key, or use the Right-Click menu to place activities specifically within an existing hierarchy or logic chain.

Things to Consider

  • Permissions: You must have 'Standard' or 'Admin' level permissions on the project's Scheduling tool to add activities.

  • WBS Placement: When you add an activity, the WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) number is assigned based on its position. If you move the task later, the number will automatically update.

Steps

Rapid Creation (Keyboard Shortcut)

  1. Navigate to the Scheduling tool.

  2. Scroll to the bottom of your activity list.

  3. Click into the last row and press Enter.

    • Note: A new, blank activity row will appear immediately below, allowing for continuous typing.

Using the Toolbar Button

  1. Click to select any row in the schedule grid.

  2. Click the Add Activity Below button (located at the bottom left corner of the grid).

  3. Type the name of the task and press Enter.

Advanced Row Addition (Right-Click)

Use this method when you need to place a task in a specific logical or hierarchical position:

  1. Right-click on an existing activity row.

  2. Select Add... from the context menu.

  3. Choose one of the following:

    • Activity Above/Below: Adds a task at the same hierarchical level.

    • Child Activity: Adds a sub-task nested under the selected row.

    • Successor/Predecessor: Adds a task and automatically creates a dependency link to the selected row.

Copy and Paste

  1. Select a row (or hold Shift/Ctrl to select multiple rows).

  2. Use Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste.

    • Note: If you copy a parent/summary activity, Procore will automatically include all of its children in the paste action.
