Create Timeline Header Events

Background

Timeline header events are used to highlight significant external dates that may impact a project but are not necessarily tasks within the schedule. For example, if a project is located on a college campus, you might use these events to mark "Finals Week" or "Spring Break" to alert the team of potential site restrictions or noise ordinances during those periods.

Things to Consider

Required User Permissions: 'Standard' level permissions or higher on the project's Scheduling tool.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the project's Scheduling tool.

  2. Locate the top ribbon above the Gantt chart.

  3. Click the Flag icon.

  4. In the window that appears, define the following:

    • Event Name: Type a descriptive name for the event (e.g., "Finals Week").

    • Date or Date Range: Select the specific point in time or duration the event represents.

  5. Click Save.

    • Note: The event will now appear as a vertical representation across the Gantt chart.
