How do permissions affect my workflow in the Model Manager?

Procore Model Manager - Beta Access & Feedback

The Model Manager (Beta) features and documentation are subject to change without notice.

  • To learn about the beta program, see the Beta Participant Guide.

  • To access the beta and provide feedback Show/Hide Details

    • How to Access: Participating companies must sign the Procore Beta Agreement. Once signed, your Procore Administrator coordinates with your Procore point of contact to enable Model Manager (Beta) on specific Procore projects.

    • How to Provide Feedback During Beta: Contact your dedicated Beta program lead.

    • How to report critical issues: Report breaking changes to Procore Customer Support. For general feedback or non-critical issues, contact your Beta program lead or Procore point of contact.

Currently, only Admin permissions are available. Procore will add more permission levels later.

Answer

Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows rely on precise access control to ensure the integrity of the federated model. Here is a breakdown of how permissions govern your experience:

Currently, only Admin permissions are available. Procore will add more permission levels later.

1. Model Federation & Initial Access

The landing page of the Model Manager is dynamic, changing based on your administrative status and the project's progress.

  • Who can create the Federated Project Model? Only Admins have the authority to source discipline files from the project's document repository to federate a model. See Federate a New Project Model.

  • What if I am a Non-Admin? If the Admin hasn't federated a scene yet, you will see a notification stating a Project Model is required. Once created, you can access the model card and any views assigned to you.

  • How are updates handled? Only Admins can update the model when new versions of the source files are uploaded to the document repository.

2. Managing Project Views

Once you have conditioned a model (e.g., applied section cuts or hidden elements), your ability to save and share those project views depends on your access permissions.

3. Connected BIM (Object Linking & Connected Item Pinning)

When linking 3D geometry to Procore items in other tools (for example, coordination issues, inspections, or observations), the Next-Gen Viewer mirrors your existing Procore tool permissions.

  • Tool Availability: When you right-click to link an item or drop a pin, the menu will only display tools you have permission to use on that specific project.

  • Data Visibility: If you lack permission to see a specific record—such as an unpublished coordination issue or a private observation—that record will be filtered out. You will not be able to view or link items that are outside your visibility rights.
