What is an assignable permissions template?

Answer

Permissions templates are the main way to manage user access to Procore tools. While Admin users can assign any template, sometimes users with lower permissions also need to assign permissions. However, users with lower level permissions can only assign permissions templates that have been specified by the Admin.

To do this, Admins would create a Company or Project level permission template with granular permissions for the Directory tool that gives a user access perform one or more of the following actions:

  • Create and edit users based on assignable permissions templates

  • Add users from the Company Directory to the Project Directory based on assignable templates

  • Manage permissions based on assignable permissions templates

Next, the Admin would update the permission template with the 'assignable templates' that these users are allowed to assign. Finally, they would assign users this permission template.

Now, the users assigned the permission template can update other users' permissions, based on the assignable templates.

Example

Jack is a Project Coordinator at Nelson General Contractors. His manager wants him to manage subcontractors.

Jack is assigned the permissions template, 'Project Coordinator - Internal'. This permissions template allows him to create and edit users. Additionally the 'Subcontractor - External' permissions template is selected as an 'assignable template' that he can assign to other users.

Based on his permissions template, Jack can create and edit users and assign them to the 'Subcontractor - External' permissions template.
