Background

Creating test users allows you to firsthand experience how different roles, such as subcontractors or design team members, interact with Procore. This process helps you validate standard operating procedures and confirm what information is accessible to specific collaborators before you engage in live project work. By using email aliases, you can manage multiple test accounts through your existing email address to efficiently test workflows and permissions.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the project's Directory tool.

  2. Click Add User.

  3. Enter a first and last name for the test user.
    Note: Use a consistent naming convention, such as including 'test' or 'demo' in the name, to distinguish these from real user accounts.

  4. In the Email Address box, create an email alias using your regular email address.

    • To do this, add a plus sign and custom text before the @ symbol (for example, username+test1@company.com).

    • Procore recognizes this as a unique user account.

  5. Select the appropriate permission template for the account from the Permission Template drop-down menu.

  6. Click Add.

  7. Review the user information and click Save.

  8. To act as the test user, log in to Procore using the email alias and your credentials.
