Daily Log Types
Background
You can use the Daily Log tool to record your daily project activities. Each type of log (such as Manpower and Timecards) within the tool is organized into a separate section. You can easily add, view, and manage these logs (records) using the tool.
Using the following tabs in the Daily Log tool, you can manage the daily logs:
List: Allows you to configure and view the daily logs. See View a Daily Log in the List View.
Calendar: Provides a visual overview of all entries for a month. You can create, manage, and complete entries and days directly from this view. See View and Manage Daily Logs in the Calendar View.
Change History: Lists all modifications made to a daily log, including who made the changes and when. See View a Daily Log's Change History.
Things to Consider
Required User Permissions:
Users with 'Read Only' and above permissions can view and search for daily log entries.
Users with 'Standard' or 'Admin' level permissions can add new daily log entries and edit existing ones.
Users with 'Admin' level permissions can configure advanced settings, copy entries, and set which sections appear on the Daily Log tool.
Additional Information:
Not all Daily Log sections listed below are turned on by default. To learn how to enable or disable specific sections, see Configure Advanced Settings: Daily Log.
It is important to note that the purpose of each section is intended as a suggestion only; your team may utilize each section according to its specific needs.
When the day's entries are completed, you can mark the daily log as Complete.
Types of Daily Log
The following daily log types are available in the Daily Log tool:
Note: A Daily Log with an asterisk (*) indicates that the log is enabled by default when the Daily Log tool is activated on a new project.
Observed Weather Conditions*
The Observed Weather Conditions section allows for tracking various metrics, such as project delays caused by weather conditions and comparing team productivity against prevailing weather. The tool also generates a daily snapshot and weather report that automatically pulls data for the project's location from the integrated weather software.
Manpower*
The Manpower section lets you track people on site who performed work on the project that day. It allows for the collection of data including:
Companies on site
Number of workers
Hours worked
Cost codes associated with the work
You can configure the Manpower section so that the values of Hours and workers on a copied manpower entry are automatically set to zero. See Configure Daily Log Advanced Settings.
Note: If the Set Hours and Workers values to 0 on copy setting is not enabled in the Daily Log Settings > Manpower screen, the copied manpower entry will retain the number of hours and workers from the previous entry.
Notes*
The Notes section allows you to add any additional information relevant to the day. It serves as an ideal location to enter miscellaneous items or issues that do not fit into the other log sections or tools. You can also mark specific notes as issues to generate dedicated reports on them.
Timecards*
The Timecards section allows you to track the hours of internal workers and employees, along with their billable status. Data from this section is transferred to the company-level Timecard tool, which displays all timecard entries for all projects within the company.
Important
If your project uses the Timesheets tool, your team should not create or edit timecard entries in the Timecards section of the project's Daily Log tool. Instead, follow the steps in Create a Timesheet and Edit a Timesheet. This ensures the data from the project's Timesheets tool automatically populates the Timecards section in the Daily Log tool.
Equipment*
The Equipment section allows you to track the usage hours of equipment and machinery, the time of their inspection, and the associated cost code.
Visitors*
The Visitors section lets you track anyone who visits the site (for example, owner, union representative, salesperson, sales agent, and customers) and record a description of their visit.
Phone Calls*
The Phone Calls section allows you to log all calls made and the participants. You can use this section to log phone calls that are not considered meetings but cover topics requiring documentation.
Inspections*
The Inspections section lets you track inspections performed by third-party inspectors throughout the project. You can use this section only if the dedicated Inspections tool is not enabled on your project.
Deliveries*
The Deliveries section allows you to track when shipments or packages are delivered. You can include who the delivery was from, the tracking number associated with the delivery, and the contents of the package.
Scheduled Work*
The Scheduled Work section allows you to track information for the project resources scheduled to complete tasks. For each resource, you can record details such as their presence at the job site (for example, showed up or did not show up), the number of workers involved, hours worked, and the compensation rate. You must add resources using the project's Directory tool. See Add a User Account to the Project Directory.
Daily Construction Report
The Daily Construction Report section allows you to track the total number of workers and hours worked for each vendor, company, and trade on a project. You can configure additional categories for workforce labor using the company-level Admin tool for use on projects. See How do I enable additional workforce labor types for the Daily Log?
Safety Violations*
The Safety Violations section lets you track any hazardous actions or events that have violated the safety of those on site. You can record a violation or notice, including details such as a picture, time, and date.
Plan Revisions
The Plan Revisions section allows you to add information for tracking project plans based on revision number, title, and category. It also provides a dedicated space for entering comments.
Accidents*
The Accidents section lets you add and track the parties or companies involved in any accidents that occurred on site.
Quantities*
The Quantities section allows you to add and track the amount of materials used on a given day.
Productivity*
The Productivity section allows you to track the material received on site and the material installed. This section displays if there are any approved subcontracts or purchase orders utilizing the Unit/Quantity accounting method, allowing you to track installation progress against the contract line items.
Dumpster*
The Dumpster section allows you to record when dumpsters are delivered and by which supplier.
Waste*
The Waste section allows you to record the type and amount of waste on site, how and where the waste is disposed, and by whom. This is useful for maintaining project compliance with applicable state waste laws.
Photos*
The Photos section allows you to upload photos associated with your daily log. This is an ideal place to collect progress photos of the jobsite for that day.
Delays
The Delays section allows you to track any delays that occur or exist during the day.
