The Model Manager tool allows project teams to view, coordinate, and track construction models directly within the application. Understanding specific access ensures your team members possess the appropriate level of visibility to perform their day-to-day operations. Assigning the correct permissions helps protect model integrity while streamlining collaboration between managers, field teams, and stakeholders.

Answer

Managing user access to the Model Manager tool depends on the permission level assigned to a user's account profile for the tool. You can assign users these permission levels: 'Read Only', 'Standard', and 'Admin'. As a best practice, Procore recommends structuring your team's permissions by your team's job role to help you optimize collaboration.

Recommended Permission Level on Model Manager

Description of Capabilities

Notes

BIM Manager/VDC Lead

'Admin'

Manages model files, federation, 2D sheet overlays, public views, and can manage user permissions only within the tool.

'Admin' has full access to all tool features and functions.

Procore recommends managing user access with a project permissions template, which requires 'Admin' on the Permissions tool.

Project Manager

'Admin' or 'Standard'

Maintains oversight of models and manages views for coordination.

'Admin' has full access to all tool features and functions.

'Standard' restricts users to managing their own private views.

Subcontractors

'Standard'

Views federated project models and creates their own private views for coordination workflows.

To create items, link objects, or pin elements with Connected BIM, you must have the correct permissions for that specific Procore tool.

For example, creating a coordination issue requires 'Standard' or 'Admin' permissions in the Coordination Issues tool. Because requirements vary, always check the permission rules for the specific tool.

Field Team

'Standard' or 'Read Only'

Consumes and references federated models and 2D sheet overlays with the minimap.

'Standard' manages private views for field coordination

'Read Only' restricts users to consuming public views.

Owner

'Read Only'

Reviews and views project models for general reference and oversight.

'Read Only' restricts users to consuming public views.

Tip

Ready to configure user permissions for Model Manager? Procore recommends using a project permissions template. For details, see Manage User Access with a Project Permissions Template. Alternatively, if you prefer to manage permissions directly within the tool, see Configure Model Manager Settings.
