What is a Multi-Directional Connection?

A multi-directional connection allows you to set independent data flow directions (sending or receiving) for different tools within the same project connection.

Instead of locking an entire project connection into being exclusively a "Sender" or a "Receiver" for all tools, you can mix and match per tool. For example, within a single connection with a partner, your project can receive RFIs from them while simultaneously sending Submittals to them (or vice versa).

Key Features

  • Granular Control: You can independently choose whether you send or receive data for RFIs and Submittals all within a single project connection.

  • Flexible Collaboration: Matches real world workflows where your role (sending vs. receiving) changes depending on whether you are managing RFIs or Submittals with the same partner.

  • Inactive vs. Disabled Tool Statuses:

    • Inactive (RFIs & Submittals): When a connection is turned off, RFIs and Submittals transition to Inactive. You can easily reconnect inactive tools at any time directly in the project.

    • Disabled (Drawings): When a connection is turned off, Drawings transition to Disabled. To restore a disabled tool, you must reach out to Procore Support.

Tool

Multi-Directional Connections

RFIs

Can be set to Send or Receive independently within the same connection, regardless of how other tools are configured.

Submittals

Can be set to Send or Receive independently within the same connection, regardless of how other tools are configured.

Drawings

Excluded from multi-directional connections. Drawings can still only be connected by the Receiving user who initiates the project connection.
