Import a Read-Only Project Schedule
Background
Importing a Read-Only schedule preserves your master schedule logic by keeping the imported data grayed out. Acting as a foundation for field execution, this option protects the master schedule while unlocking a separate editable Lookahead tab where field teams can build out granular day-to-day plans.
Things to Consider
Required User Permissions:
'Standard' level permissions or higher on the project's Scheduling tool.
Additional Information:
Supported File Types:
Standard: Phoenix (
.ppx), Microsoft Project (.mpp), and Primavera P6 (.xer).New Beta Formats: Asta Powerproject (
.pp) and MS Project XML (.xml).
Note: Beta formats support import only; exports are not available.Smartsheet Users: Must export to XML first (file-based import; direct API integration is not supported).
Third-Party File Management (Save vs. Save As):
Always use Save (not Save As) in your third-party scheduling software when updating schedule files. This preserves the internal activity IDs needed to map existing Lookahead activities and Submittals in Procore.
Do not use Save As, as it generates new internal IDs that break associations with existing Lookahead activities.
Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC) Users: For
.xerfiles generated via OPC that lack unique GUIDs, Procore utilizes a fallback identification strategy mapping Activity IDs and System-generated Object IDs to ensure Lookaheads and tool integrations stay intact across re-imports.Limitations: At this time, the latest cloud versions of P6
.xerfiles are not supported.
Steps
Updating an existing schedule: Re-importing completely overwrites and replaces the previously uploaded schedule—it does not append or add to existing data. You can upload updated files directly.
Uploading a schedule with different tasks: If your new schedule contains different/restructured tasks, you must Reset the Project Schedule first to avoid task-matching errors.
Navigate to the project's Scheduling tool.
Click Import Ready Only Schedule.
Click Attach File(s) and select your schedule file, or drag-and-drop the file into the upload area.
Click Import.
