Submit Workflow Feedback as a Commenter (iOS)
Background
The Commenter role on iOS allows field users, consultants, and specialized subject-matter experts to submit comments, and attachments to a workflow step directly from their iOS device. This ensures advisory feedback is captured from the field without forcing users to select a formal decision status or wait until they return to a desk.
Things to Consider
Required user permissions on the parent tool to view the item and submit a workflow response.
Workflow Progression:
On Multiple Responders Decide steps, required Commenters must submit their input before the step can advance, though their feedback does not affect directional routing.
On First Responder Decides steps, Commenters are optional by definition, and the step advances as soon as the first Responder submits a decision.
Dual-Role Assignment: If you are assigned to a step as both a Responder and a Commenter across different roles, the iOS response form displays the Responder UI with a banner explaining that a single response satisfies both assignments.
Task Tracking: Required Commenters see pending workflow tasks in their iOS My Open Items / Ball in Court list. Optional Commenters do not see pending tasks in My Open Items.
Supported Tools: Correspondence, Commitments (Subcontracts and Purchase Orders), Observations, and Incidents.
Mobile Workflow Restrictions: Template & active-workflow assignee/Type configuration, Bulk export of workflow history is available ONLY on desktop.
Steps
Open the Procore app on your iOS device. The project tool grid appears.
Tap My Open Items or navigate directly to the supported item detail page. The item detail screen opens. The Status / Response drop-down menu is hidden for assigned Commenters.
Enter your feedback in the 'Comments' field. Your text appears in the comment box.
Optional: Attach files, or photos if supported by the tool. The selected files appear listed as attachments on the response form.
Tap Submit. Your input is submitted. The item updates in the iOS workflow history, and required Commenters will see the task cleared from their iOS My Open Items / Ball in Court list.
