Assign a Unit of Measure to a Budget Code (Beta)
Company Administrators can enable the UOM & WBS: Assign Units of Measure to Budget Codes and Lock on Line Items beta in Procore Explore.
Company Administrators can enable the UOM & WBS: Assign Units of Measure to Budget Codes and Lock on Line Items beta in Procore Explore.
Project admins and users can assign a default Unit of Measure (UOM), such as hours, tons, or linear feet, to a budget code. Once assigned, selecting that budget code on line items across financial tools in a project automatically populates the default UOM.
If the 'Prevent a project team from updating a Budget Code's assigned UoM' setting is enabled, the default UOM is locked and cannot be edited across budgets, contracts, change management, direct costs, and invoicing. See Configure Work Breakdown Structure Company Settings and Configure Work Breakdown Structure Project Settings.
Required Permissions:
Creating budget codes: Permission to create or edit an item within the corresponding Project Financials tools that support the creation of budget codes. See Create Budget Codes in Procore's Project Financials Tools.
Importing a budget: 'Read Only' or 'Standard' level permissions on the Project level Budget tool with the 'Import Budget From File' granular permission.
When using the Project Admin tool:
'Admin' level permissions on the Project level Admin tool.
OR
"Manage Segment Items” granular permission on the Project level Admin tool.
Additional Information:
The assigned UOM is displayed in the 'Units' column on invoices and exported PDFs, but it cannot be edited.
Updating or Changing a UOM Assignment:
Changing a budget code's assigned UOM updates the default UOM for the budget code in a project.
Modifying an assigned UOM does not update existing financial line items.
Removing a UOM Assignment:
Deleting an assigned UOM unlocks the UOM field for the budget code, allowing users to update the UOM individually as needed.
Budget Import Template Behavior:
The budget import template is pre-filled with assigned Units of Measure (UOMs).
You cannot change an existing line item's UOM through the budget import.
When the 'Prevent a project team from updating a Budget Code's assigned UoM' setting is enabled, and a budget code already has an assigned UOM, importing a line item with a different UOM will fail and display an explanation message.
Inactive UOMs do not appear in the template.
Limitations:
Each budget code supports only one (1) assigned Unit of Measure (UOM) at a time.
Updating a budget code’s cost type does not automatically update or override its assigned UOM.
Automatic unit conversions between different UOMs, such as converting feet to yards, are not supported.
You can assign a unit of measure (UOM) to a budget code in the following ways:
Follow the initial steps to create a budget code in any project level financial tool.
Click the caret
icon next to Unit of Measure Assignment to expand the section.
Select a default unit from the Unit of Measure drop-down list.
Standard Behavior (Without restrictions)
When UOM editing restrictions are disabled (Company or Project):
Selecting a UOM automatically populates the UOM value in financial line items that use this budget code, and it can be edited.
If the cost type has an assigned UOM, it automatically populates and can be edited. See Assign a Unit of Measure to a Company Cost Type.
Restricted Behavior
When UOM editing restrictions are enabled (Company or Project):
Selecting a UOM automatically populates and locks the UOM value in financial line items that use this budget code, and it cannot be edited.
If the cost type has an assigned UOM, it appears as read-only with a lock icon and cannot be edited.
Click Create.
Follow the initial steps to import a budget.
On the Budget Line Items worksheet, enter or update your budget line items:
Select a default UOM for each line item using the UOM drop-down list in the template.

Selecting a UOM automatically populates the UOM value in financial line items that use this new budget code, or a code without an assigned UOM. This UOM value can be edited.

Continue with the remaining steps to import a budget.
Navigate to the Project level Admin tool.
Under 'Project Settings', click Work Breakdown Structure.
Select the Budget Code Usage tab.
Locate the budget code line item you want to modify.

Search for or select a default unit of measure (UOM).
You can assign or change the UOM on any budget code, whether the 'Prevent a project team from updating a Budget Code's assigned UoM' setting is enabled or disabled.
If a UOM is inherited from the cost type while the company-level setting 'Prevent a project team from updating a Budget Code's assigned UoM' is enabled, a lock icon will appear, and the UOM cannot be changed.
Changes made to a UOM in the Project level Admin tool do not update existing line items in project financial tools.
