Pin Observations

Procore Model Manager - Beta Access & Feedback

The Model Manager (Beta) features and documentation are subject to change without notice. (Note: At the launch of the Beta, only 'Admin' level permissions are available. Additional permissions will be phased in during the product lifecycle).

To access the beta and provide feedback Show/Hide Details

  • How to Access: Participating companies must sign the Procore Beta Agreement. Once signed, your Procore Administrator coordinates with your Procore point of contact to enable Model Manager (Beta) on specific Procore projects.

  • How to Provide Feedback During Beta: Contact your dedicated Beta program lead.

  • How to report critical issues: Report breaking changes to Procore Customer Support. For general feedback or non-critical issues, contact your Beta program lead or Procore point of contact.

Pin observations directly to 3D objects in the Next-Gen Viewer to give your field team clear, spatial context for every deficiency. By linking the record to a specific model component, you eliminate location ambiguity and provide instant access to the related photos or notes. This trail ensures issues are identified, located, and resolved faster.

Tip

What's the difference between a link & a pin in a model? A link ties a Procore record directly to a physical 3D model object (like a specific pipe or door). It does not require dropping a spatial pin. A pin ties a record to a specific spatial coordinate (X, Y, Z location) in the model by dropping a visual 3D pin.

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permissions:

    • Permissions to create observations.

    • Permissions to the project's chosen document repository:

      • Document Management

      • Documents

  • Additional Information:

    • You can pin one record to multiple objects simultaneously using the 'Select Similar' feature.

    • You can pin a single object to records from multiple project tools (for example, linking one coordination issue and one inspection to the same pipe).

    • You can pin multiple records from the same project tool to a single object, but you cannot do it simultaneously. Each record must be linked to the object in its own separate action.

Steps

Follow the appropriate steps below to either create and pin a new observation or to pin an existing observation to the 3D space.

Create and Pin a New Observation

Follow these steps to create and pin a new observation in the federated project model:

  1. Navigate to the Model Manager (Beta) tool.

  2. Open the federated project model.

  3. In the left toolbar, click the Items icon.

  4. In the Items window, select Observations from the menu.

  5. Choose one (1) option:

    • If you have existing observations, click the Plus (+) icon.

    • If this is the model's first observation, click the Create button.

  6. Click a location in the 3D space to drop the pin.

  7. In the New Issue window:

    1. Enter information in the required fields marked with an asterisk.

    2. Enter any additional information in the required fields.

      Note

Need help creating an observation? To learn how to complete this form, see Create an Observation.

  8. Click Create. Procore creates an issue in the Observations tool and adds the new pin to the items list in the Observations window of the viewer in the Initiated status.

    Tip

Want to move a pin to a different location? Double-click it in the 3D space and then drag-and-drop it at the location you want.

Pin an Existing Observation

Follow these steps to pin an existing observation to a 3D space in the federated project model:

  1. Navigate to the Model Manager (Beta) tool.

  2. Open the federated project model.

  3. In the left toolbar, click the Items icon.

  4. In the Items window, select Observation from the menu.

  5. In the Items list, select the existing observation from the list.

  6. Click the Pin button on the item's card to place the pin.

  7. Click a location in the 3D space to drop the pin.

  8. In the Related Items window, select the observation to attach and click Pin.
