Section planes let you cut through a model to view internal details or specific cross-sections of a project. This helps you better understand complex spatial relationships and inspect areas that are otherwise hidden from view.
Additional Information:
Maximum Limit: You can add a maximum of six (6) planes per session. If you exceed this limit, a notification message informs you. In the future, section boxes will be available and should be used instead.
Follow these steps to enter Section Plane mode, place planes, and manipulate cuts within your 3D space:
Navigate to the Model Manager (Beta) tool.
Open a model.
Choose how to enter Section Plane mode:
Toolbar path: In the right toolbar, click
Section Tools to reveal the flyout options. Currently, the only option is Section Plane.
Context menu: Right-click any object in the 3D space and choose Add Section Plane from the menu.
To learn about options when working in an active tool mode, see Manage Tool Modes in the Viewer.
Once you enter the mode, your cursor changes to a sectioning mode icon.
Toolbar path: Move your cursor over model objects to see a dynamic hight and plane preview based on the surface face orientation.
Context menu: If you use the context menu, the system places the plane exactly where your cursor was located when you right-click the 3D space.
Once a plane is placed, the perpendicular drag handles appear automatically.
Click and drag the handles to move the plane into position.
While dragging the plane, the lines for the profile cut outline all sliced objects to illustrate the cross-section. The thickness of the lines shrink once dragging stops.
The plane's drag handles remain visible at all times are are not occluded by geometry or panels. If you navigate away from your initial section view, simply click the handle to automatically recenter your camera back to the section.
