Enabling hardware acceleration allows your browser to offload demanding visual tasks to your computer’s hardware. This helps to improve rendering speed and reduces latency, providing a smoother experience when viewing 3D models in the Next-Gen Viewer. While these steps use Windows® 11 and Google Chrome™ as an example, the process is similar for other supported web browsers.
If your interface looks different than the steps described on this page, please consult the official documentation for your specific OS or browser version. Procore does not manage third-party software settings, but we recommend these optimizations for the best experience with our 3D tools.
Required User Permissions:
Administrator permissions on your Windows® device.
Additional Information:
Updates: Ensure your Windows OS and graphic drivers are up to date.
Scope: Repeat these steps for any other browser you use with the Next-Gen Viewer.
Viewing on Mobile? Manual optimization is not required for iOS or Android. The Procore BIM Plugin automatically utilizes your device's hardware. For best performance, see What are the hardware and software specifications for viewing models?
Before attempting to enable hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, verify that your Windows® system uses the required driver model as follows:
On your keyboard, press the Windows (Win) + R keys.
In the Open box, type dxdiag.
Click OK.
In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window, click the Display tab.
Under the Drivers section, locate Driver Model. Note: If the version is WDDM 2.7 or higher, your hardware supports this feature.
Configure your web browser to use the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) as follows:
On your Windows® device, open the Start menu.
In the Search for apps, settings, and documents bar, type: Graphics Settings.
Under Best Match, click Graphic Settings and click Open.
Make sure the Optimized for windowed games toggle is switched ON.
Under Custom settings for applications, type the name of your browser in the Search this List box. In this example, we will type: Google Chrome
Don't see your browser listed in Custom settings for applications? You can manually add it by finding its installation path as follows:
Open the Start menu and type the name of your browser in the Search bar. For example, type: Google Chrome
Click Open File Location to see your installation path. Note: Your browser and path may be different, but common installation paths for our Google Chrome example include:
C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application
C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application
Note the installation path for your system.
Go back to the System > Display > Graphics window and navigate to the correct .exe file.
Click Add to add it to the custom applications list.
Find your browser application in the list, then click its tile to expand the custom settings.
Next to GPU Preference, select Let Windows decide (High performance) from the drop-down menu.
Make sure the Optimizations for windows games toggle is switched ON.
Close the System > Display > Graphics window.
Restart your Windows® device to apply your changes.
